Benefits of Drinking Matcha Green Tea

In many of my previous posts I've mentioned about taking a diet which is rich in antioxidants. Today I am going to share multiple health benefits of the traditional Japanese Matcha Green Tea. Just like green tea, matcha is prepared from Camellia sinensis plants. The difference is that it is grown differently and has a unique nutrient profile.
The tea plants are covered while they are growing to avoid direct sunlight. This helps in increasing the chlorophyll production, helps in boosting amino acid content and gives the plant a dark green hue. After the plant is harvested the leaves are grounded in a fine powder form known as MATCHA.

Multiple benefits of drinking Matcha Green Tea are

Great source of antioxidants- As it contains the nutrients from the entire tea leaves, it is rich in caffeine and antioxidants. Matcha contains catechins which act as natural antioxidants. It helps in preventing free radical damage to the cells. The reduction of free radical damage helps in preventing chronic diseases and early signs of aging.

Note- It is advised to take only 1-2 cups of matcha tea per day (2-4 teaspoons) and not more than that as it contains a very high amount of caffeine content than the normal green tea.

Good for liver and kidney function-Some studies have also shown that matcha helps in detoxifying the body and also helps in removing the toxic wastes. This helps in improving the overall health of liver and kidney.

Stimulates brain activity- As the tea is rich in caffeine, it helps in improving the brain function, increased attention and enhancement of the memory for different tasks. Matcha also contains L-theanine  that alters the effects of caffeine, helping in avoiding the  crash energy levels that can occur after caffeine consumption.

Helps in weight loss- Japanese matcha helps in improving the metabolism of the body. The improvement on metabolism helps in cutting down the fat and regulates weight in the individual.

Reduces cholesterol- The tea helps in maintaining the low density lipoprotein and high density lipoproteins that results in maintaining  and lowering cholesterol levels preventing the risk of heart disease.

The whisked matcha can also be added to almond/ any plant based milk and ice to make your own matcha latte.

Matcha green tea can be added to your smoothies and puddings to add an added touch of antioxidants to it.

Always remember that don't go overboard with matcha green tea as excess can be harmful to the body. Always limit to 1-2 cups/ day and invest in good organic certified JAPANESE MATCHA GREEN TEA.
